SPACE

For this project I am going to be focusing on Saint Marie's Catholic Cathedral.

My idea is based around how when this space is empty it is still full; with peace and light. Churches have been designed to allow light to shine and act like a metaphor of God,

I want to capture the role that light plays in this church and illuminate the ominous portraits most churches are given.

I also chose this space because it plays an important role in my life.

In this project I am going to explore camera angles that will highlight the beauty of this Cathedral and bring a sense of peace to viewers as it does to me. By using low camera angles I will highlight the magnitude inside the cathedral and capture the light that is let in.

I also want to capture the symmetry within the building by taking long shots this will also highlight the natural light that is let into the Cathedral

I like these four images as they portray space in the Cathedral as being light and warm they  also illuminate the feeling that Churches or Cathedrals are daunting .

Thoughts for next shoot.

For my next shoot I have decided to focus on only the interior of the Cathedral, I am also going to focus on the framing of my images to highlight the symmetry within the building.

The natural light that comes through the windows is reflected of many of the surfaces which creates more light, I want to explore this aspect of light as well by capturing areas that reflect the light such as the pews and the floor.

Precedent Images

Anne Noble - Antarctica 

Anne  Nobles photographs illustrate space in a cold but peace full sense , i found her images interesting because  she captures space  at a large scale but then also captures space in a more confined area (image two). Over all I think Anne Nobles images are a good example of SPACE

Candida Hofer

I found Candida Hofer's images interesting because of the symmetry developed in his photographs of the frames/pillars/walls .The long shots he uses emphasises the symmetry in the buildings, this is what I would like to illustrate in my images as well. I also admire how he uses the central focal points in his images to guide the viewers eye.

Wendy Burton

I found this image of Wendy Burton interesting because it illustrates a space that was once in use, abandoned and deteriorating. The use of the long shot in this image captures the whole scale of the space, it captures the ceiling and surrounding walls which is also what I would like to capture in my images.
