PROJECT 3 - LIGHT

LIGHT PROPOSAL

My proposal is to show the effect of light on transparent objects. I want to be able to show how light can transform the shadows of transparent objects, and what is created by the interaction of these objects and light.

I'm going to do this by taking photos of transparent objects (that hold liquid such as perfume bottles) in sun lit settings

My Final Images

The interaction of light and the transparent object created a bird form in the reflection/shadow.

I really like the colour in this image and how the reflection has been abstracted

In this image I held a sheet of textured paper behind the perfume bottle creating a different texture  in the shadow. I think that the different texture helped emphasise the reflection

I like this image and how the reflection looks like a flame.  For this effect I put indian ink into a glass of water and captured the ink floating in the water through the reflection

FOURTH SHOOT

FAVOURITES

In this shoot I really wanted to focus on the reflections that the light created,
I think that these three images show this focus the best. I think that the reflections created have amazing colour.

SECOND SHOOT

FAVOURITES

I like this image because of how the different surface compliments
the reflection of the bottle.

I like this image because of how the sunlight has abstracted the
reflection and made it look  like its from out of space.

Experimenting with light

These are just a few images of when I was at the water front,
I was just playing around with long exposure to abstract the
lights of the water front and the city, just a bit of fun.

RESEARCH

Imogen Cunningham

Imogens images show how light can be used to turn objects abstract.
I like this image because the light in this image makes the lilies look completely different, they also look like their floating.

I like this image because the lighting has
made the  rose look like its plastic. the lighting
also makes the hard wood surface abstract itself
          and looks like flowing water.

The lighting in this image makes the lilies look like
their flames. lilies are the flower of death so I also
think that Imogen could have been trying to abstract
this image to make the lilies sort of look like a spirit in some sense.

Maholy Nagi

I like this image of Maholy Nagi because of how he has used light to create an abstract shadow from the object, this is something I want to achieve through this project as well.

This image is interesting because the simple lighting highlights the areas of importance and it also contrasts against the dark plain background. I also think that the lighting helps direct then viewers eyes down the image.

I like this image because the lighting makes the object look like its moving, but the reflection grounds the object. I also like how the lighting almost gives this still object living characteristics.

This image is interesting because of how the lighting emphasises the movement of the object. The lighting also makes the centre of the object look still in contrast with the outside part that looks like its moving creating an abstract form

MY PROPOSAL - TIME

My proposal is to capture growth over time. Time is taken for granted when growing up so I want to be able to show how time "wears in rather than wears out"

I'm going to show this concept by capturing growth through the ageing of hands.I think that hands show growth well because we use our hands constantly and through time our hands are affected. Hands convey the passage of time, and from that we are able to see growth.

I'm going to do this by taking photos of different aged hands, and create a mosaic or a collage which illustrates a hand developing/ growing from an infant into a mature adult.

Final Images

In this collage format I changed the opacity of each hand as it aged, this was to show the passing of time and I also wanted to be able to show each layer/ hand to again show the passing of time.

In this collage I wanted to show  how over time our hands change . The different skin tones show  and different spots on each hand is to show growth through out the hands.

Collage of hands development

Sixth Shoot

This shoot consists of hands within 60 and 70 years of age.

FAVOURITES

Fifth Shoot

I took photos of four different age groups in this shoot - 20,30.40 and 50 year age groups.
again I wanted to have a plain background to emphasis and focus on the hands that are in the images. the different tones in the different aged hands I think illustrates different paths that we take over time as well as different developments in ageing.
